Millbrook resort to reopen spa
POSTED 30 Sep 2004 . BY
Millbrook Resort in Queenstown, New Zealand, will boast the largest spa facility in the country when it reopens the Spa at Millbrook next month (October).

The original Spa at Millbrook, which opened in December 2001, was destroyed in an electrical fire late last year, and the subsequent redevelopment has seen it double in size to 504sq m.

The new facility, which has cost NZ$1.7m (£640,000) will include eight dry treatment rooms, two wet treatment rooms, a hair salon, manicure and pedicure stations, a retail area, an outdoor dining area and a number of private courtyards.

A wet steamroom will offer a combination of a Turkish Bath-style steam session with treatments, while another room will offer a Hydra Swiss high pressure jet shower. There will also be a bathing room.

Three dual treatment rooms have been introduced to respond to a growing trend for dual treatments and a new Vichy massage table – Vichy massage is one of its signature treatments – has been crafted from Arcadia Cedar and carved in the shape of a mangrove leaf.

“The fire was heart-breaking,” said hotel manager Karen Henry, “but after two years’ of successful operation it enabled us to build again and highlight the best of what is on offer from around the world.

“In the past three years we have seen massive growth and demand in the spa market and the new Spa at Millbrook will cater for that growth.”

The new facility has been designed by Christchurch-based architect Haden Emslie – who also designed the resort’s heath and fitness centre – to blend into the surrounding environment.

The resort also offers a championship golf course and a fitness centre boasting a gym, indoor swimming pool and sauna, outdoors spas and a hot pool and three tennis courts.
