Alpine-themed Six Senses Courchevel spa set to open
POSTED 27 Oct 2016 . BY Jane Kitchen
The design concept is based on snow waves and their organic shapes, which have been translated into contemporary features throughout the spa
Six Senses is opening a spa in the ski-resort destination of Courchevel, France this December, catering to local residents, chalet owners, holidaymakers and other skiing enthusiasts. Located in the heart of Courchevel 1850, the spa is a part of Six Senses Residences Courchevel which houses 53 penthouses and apartments.

The spa will feature a bathing circuit designed with the skier’s needs in mind, and will welcome a variety of visiting practitioners who will complement the menu of signature therapies aimed at relieving aching muscles and joints. Spa memberships will be available to guests wanting a wellness top-up on a more regular basis.

The design concept is based on snow waves and their organic shapes, which have been translated into contemporary features throughout the spa. Dressed in a palette of pure white, clean and bright colors, they are complemented by quirky mountain motifs in the form of local artworks and features to celebrate and emphasise the spa’s Alpine setting.

Using biophilic principles, the spa design aims to articulate the relationship between nature, human biology and built environment.

The 7,500sq ft (700sq m) spa features five treatment rooms – two double and three single – an indoor swimming pool with a relaxation area lit by natural light, and an outdoor hot tub. There is also a vitality area with bio sauna, sauna, Kneipp path, rain shower and a steam room.

A gym and a studio for wellness classes such as yoga and meditation are open to guests throughout the season, and a Six Senses juice bar will serve smoothies and juices.

Guests can choose from a range of therapies focusing on warming tired muscles, rehabilitating fatigued joints and boosting circulation; face and body treatments will use The Organic Pharmacy, and Kure Bazaar nail varnishes are used in manicures and pedicures.

An open-plan reception and lounge, designed in a style of a concept store, features a living green wall. Retail spaces feature a collection from niche French brands and designers, including natural soaps, hand-poured candles, Six Senses exclusive yoga line by Ana Heart, a cashmere collection, wool felt slippers, meditation necklaces and hand-crafted wooden sunglasses.
