Dragon Quest museum coming to Tokyo
POSTED 19 Feb 2016 . BY Tom Anstey
The series is incredibly popular in Japan, debuting on the Famicom games system in 1986, going on to release 10 games spanning multiple platforms
A museum dedicated to videogame series Dragon Quest is coming to Tokyo, Japan, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the game’s release.

The series is incredibly popular in Japan, having debuted on the Famicom games system in 1986 and going on to release 10 games spanning multiple platforms. To date, Dragon Quest has sold 66 million units worldwide, though the game was never released in Europe.

Opening in July, the museum will occupy the 9th floor of the Shibuya Hikarie skyscraper, open daily to the public between 24 July and 11 September. Tokyo-based advertising and marketing company Dentsu is handling planning and production.

The pop-up – supported by game developer Square Enix – will feature several themed attractions and exhibits based on the series, including the original 8-bit Dragon Quest game, up to the latest release, Dragon Quest X, released in 2012.

In addition to themed exhibits and attractions, a food court designed to look like the series’ Monster Park, an “item shop” selling Dragon Quest-themed merchandise and a big screen projector depicting showdowns between the hero and a selection of well-known bosses from the games will also be included.
