Shangri-La's Le Touessrok Resort & Spa launches following six-month renovation

Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok Resort & Spa in Mauritius opened its doors earlier this month following a six-month renovation, which involved the remodelling of the 200-key property and rebranding the spa.

The rebrand was organised in 2014, during the signing of a joint venture between Shangri-La’s holding company, Shangri-La Asia and the resort’s owner, Sun Resorts. Shangri-La Asia has taken a 26 per cent stake in the property.

At the grand opening of the property – where Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius, Sir Anerood Jugnauth, gave a speech – 580 guests toured the 34-acre (32-hectare) site, including the new eight-treatment room CHI The Spa at Shangri-La.

Previously a Givenchy Spa, the new Shangri-La branded spa offers ayurvedic treatments using organic, locally-sourced ingredients in the skincare. Private consultations with nutritionist and ayurvedic doctors can also be booked by guests and the spa menu incorporates yoga and meditation into every treatment, in addition to local customs such as the slow rhythmic beats of national music.

The resort’s three wings – named Coral, Hibiscus and Frangipani – have all been outfitted with contemporary furnishings made from organic and recycled materials to create a sustainable yet timeless feel. These furnishings include wood structures and hand-dyed linen.

Five dining options are available at the hotel – one of which is a food theatre called Le Bazar, which features show kitchens and a marketplace atmosphere.

Alongside the restaurants and two bars, there are two swimming pools, an 18-hole par 72 championship golf course and exclusive access to Ilot Mangenie – an island with 3.5km of beach.

Shangri-La Le Touessrok Resort & Spais the second property in the brand’s growing portfolio in the Indian Ocean, joining Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort & Spa, Maldives and preceding the 2016 debut of Shangri-La’s Hambantota Resort & Spa in Sri Lanka.
